Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated
Controls Engineer
to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in supporting, designing, developing, and maintaining the control systems that power our metal stamping presses and robotic weld cells. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in PLC programming, HMI design, robotic integration, and industrial automation within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and implement PLC and HMI systems for metal stamping presses and robotic weld cells.
Program and troubleshoot control systems (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, or similar).
Integrate and support industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, ABB) in welding and material handling applications.
Diagnose and resolve control system issues, minimizing downtime and improving process reliability.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and production teams to design and install new equipment and retrofit existing systems.
Create and maintain documentation including electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, and user manuals.
Ensure systems comply with relevant safety and quality standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO).
Provide training and technical support to maintenance and production personnel.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis efforts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
3+ years of experience in industrial controls, preferably in metal stamping and/or robotic welding environments.
Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
Experience with HMI/SCADA systems(Ignition).
Familiarity with robotic systems and their integration.
Knowledge of NFPA 79, UL508A, and other relevant electrical standards.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Willingness to travel occasionally to support installations and service.
Skills (Not Required):
Experience with servo systems and motion control.
Vision system integration (Cognex, Keyence).
Network and fieldbus configuration (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, DeviceNet).
CAD software for electrical design (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
