Principal Payments Software Engineer
The Principal Payments Software Engineer is a top-level engineering team lead responsible for delivering highly complex, scalable software solutions with a focus on payment systems and large-scale transaction processing. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong technical leadership, guiding engineering teams through architecture, design, and implementation phases. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with a proven track record in modern software development, distributed systems, and modern software engineering practices. This role is critical in shaping the technical direction of the team while remaining deeply embedded in the codebase and delivery lifecycle. This position is a senior leader of the organization who serves as leader, collaborator, innovator, role model, champion and subject matter expert. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and deployment of highly scalable and resilient software systems, particularly in the payments and financial transaction domain. Architect cloud-native solutions using AWS services, ensuring performance, security, and operational excellence. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability. Collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into top-tier technical solutions. Drive Agile best practices, including story refinement, test-driven development, CI/CD automation, and DevSecOps integration. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack, from infrastructure to application logic. Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and hands-on development. Drive the evolution of system architecture and engineering standards across the organization. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems-related field, or equivalent education and related training Minimum of five+ years of experience in leading edge, complex, state-of-the-art technologies and/or techniques with additional experience within software development Recognized in the industry for their experience and knowledge. May obtain the knowledge through more intense experience, such as working in a technology development company Strong business and financial acumen and effective communication skills Ability to establish strong relationships within the technical community Ability to serve as a visionary concerning future technological capabilities and operational scenarios; ability to create new business models and technologies Ability to create, manage and drive change Ability to unify activities within the technology community, coordinating with other businesses and engineering organizations, as needed Other Job Requirements / Working Conditions Visual / Audio / Speaking: Able to access and interpret client information received from the computer and able to hear and speak with individuals in person and on the phone. Manual Dexterity / Keyboarding: Able to work standard office equipment, including PC keyboard and mouse, copy/fax machines, and printers. Availability: Able to work all hours scheduled, including overtime as directed by manager/supervisor and required by business need.
