The Cloud Security Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert for cybersecurity within the DFAS DRAS-M IL-5 Cloud Tenant. This role is critical to ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of DFAS mission systems hosted in secure cloud environments. The engineer will design, implement, and maintain advanced security architectures, enforce Zero Trust principles, and ensure full compliance with DoD and DFAS cybersecurity frameworks. Acting as both a strategic advisor and hands-on practitioner, the Cloud Security Engineer will work closely with program leadership, system administrators, developers, and the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) to ensure secure system operations, incident response readiness, and continuous monitoring of the DFAS IL-5 tenant. Responsibilities: Develop and implement IL-5 compliant cloud security architectures and policies that align with DFAS mission and DoD cybersecurity standards. Configure, administer, and monitor advanced security tools such as Web Application Firewalls (WAF), Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint detection and response (EDR), and host-based security solutions. Integrate and enforce Zero Trust principles across all layers of the IL-5 cloud tenant, ensuring segmentation, least-privilege access, and continuous authentication/authorization. Coordinate with DFAS Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) to manage log aggregation, incident detection, forensic analysis, and security event correlation. Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing support, and compliance audits, ensuring remediation of findings and alignment with DoD STIGs and RMF requirements. Provide technical cybersecurity expertise to the ISSM and assist with Risk Management Framework (RMF) accreditation, Authority to Operate (ATO) sustainment, and continuous monitoring activities. Collaborate with developers, database administrators, and system administrators to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines and application development lifecycles (DevSecOps model). Document and maintain system security plans, standard operating procedures, and incident response playbooks in compliance with DFAS and DoD directives. Train and mentor junior staff on cloud security best practices, emerging threats, and regulatory compliance updates. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of cybersecurity engineering experience, including at least 3 years supporting DoD or IL-5+ classified cloud environments. Demonstrated expertise in cloud security technologies (WAF, IDS/IPS, EDR, SIEM, and data loss prevention). Hands-on experience with Zero Trust implementations and identity-centric security models. DoD 8570 IAM/IAT Level III certification required (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, CISM). Strong knowledge of DoD STIGs, RMF, and NIST SP 800-53 security controls. Proven ability to manage incident response activities and coordinate with CSSPs or SOCs. Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to brief technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Information Assurance. Prior experience supporting DFAS, DISA, or other DoD financial system enclaves. Industry certifications such as CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), or AWS/Azure Security specialty certifications. Experience with secure DevSecOps pipelines (CI/CD), infrastructure automation tools (Terraform, Ansible), and containerized application environments (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
