Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Equipment Engineer to lead the design and implementation of automated material handling systems for new and existing factories and programs. As a key member of the Industrial Engineering team, the successful candidate will play a critical role in operating, sustaining, and improving some of the most advanced manufacturing equipment in the world. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in a specific area of expertise (e.g., AGVs, navigation, robotics, PLC programming, vision, layouts, and warehouse design) and demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems. Additionally, the candidate should have strong knowledge of material flow principles and production control systems, with the ability to analyze and optimize material flow processes to achieve efficient and effective production operations.Responsibilities Manage engineering projects involving Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and integrate fleet equipment throughout factory and warehouse areas to ensure seamless operationsEnsure 24/7 production operations by responding to and resolving breakdowns efficiently, minimizing downtime and optimizing overall equipment effectivenessCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, product excellence, production operations, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, maintenance, and production control, to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality productionDevelop and implement site logistics plans to optimize warehousing, yard operations, trailer management, and material flow automation in conjunction with Production Control teams, utilizing strong knowledge of material flow principles and production control systemsProgram and troubleshoot PLC controllers (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff) using ladder logic and structured textLead equipment upgrades, focusing on serviceability, reliability, and process capability, and drive project improvements on AGVs and other material flow systemsContinuously optimize automated lines and drive process improvements, including detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis, to achieve efficient material flow and production controlDevelop and maintain training materials, maintenance routines, service bulletins, and related documentation for equipment life cycle managementInterface with Tesla's Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and production quality databases using Python scripting and SQLProvide hands-on support to maintenance teams and identify critical spare parts and ensure sufficient coverage to prevent extended downtime situations Requirements Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbalStrong computer skills, including proficiency in a programming languageExperience with structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., DMAIC, 8D)Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environmentExperience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and configurationExperience with robot programming, backup, and restorationStrong knowledge of material flow principles, including material handling, storage, and logisticsStrong knowledge of production control systems, including inventory management, scheduling, and supply chain managementWillingness to work flexible hours, including days, afternoons, nights, and weekends, as determined by project needs
