The
Senior Cost Accountant
is responsible for overseeing and analyzing the costs associated with manufacturing operations. This role plays a key part in the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, and ensures the accuracy of inventory valuation, cost of goods sold (COGS), and product cost analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in a manufacturing environment and be comfortable working cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and finance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze and report on
manufacturing costs , variances, and trends.
Maintain and reconcile
standard cost systems , including material, labor, and overhead.
Lead the
month-end and year-end close
processes for inventory and cost accounting.
Prepare
cost of goods sold (COGS)
and
gross margin
analysis reports.
Partner with operations to analyze
production efficiencies
and
waste .
Monitor and analyze
inventory transactions , including cycle counts and physical inventories.
Review and update
bill of materials (BOM)
and routing for accuracy.
Support the development of
annual budgets
and
forecasting models
for manufacturing operations.
Implement and maintain effective
internal controls
related to inventory and cost accounting.
Provide support for
audits
and regulatory compliance.
Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance
cost tracking ,
reporting , and
profitability analysis . Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA, CMA, or MBA is preferred. Experience:
5+ years of cost accounting experience in a
manufacturing environment .
Strong understanding of
standard costing ,
inventory accounting , and
manufacturing processes . Skills:
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics).
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, modeling).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities. Preferred Attributes:
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
Experience working with cross-functional teams (engineering, supply chain, production).
Ability to translate financial data into operational insights.
Compensation:
$85,000 to $95,000 annually Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
