Position Title: Instructional Assistant, Low Voltage and Data Center Reports To: Director, Tech Instruction, ITS/EUDS Duration: Contract (up to 3 months) Location: Remote with On-Site Facilitation (On-prem training required during the final weeks / Living near Northern Virginia) What You Will Do
As an Instructional Assistant for the Datacenter program, you will play a key role in supporting learners as they prepare for careers in IT infrastructure and data center operations. Your responsibilities will include: Assist the Technical Instructor with delivering a structured, approved curriculum focused on data center skills. Support remote classroom facilitation in an interactive, hands-on style. Enforce and model appropriate remote classroom decorum and professionalism. Take and track daily learner attendance in Salesforce and/or LMS. Coordinate with the Instructor to prepare lab tools and resources in advance of sessions. Lead instructor-approved study groups based on learner performance and needs. Provide one-on-one tutoring and support for learners who are struggling. Be prepared to step in and lead a lesson in the event of instructor absence (short-term only). Ensure all classroom or borrowed equipment is returned and properly stored. Monitor learner engagement, flag challenges early, and collaborate with instructors and coaches to provide support. Implement individualized study plans for learners when necessary. Assist with learner progress tracking, grading, and real-time data entry in Salesforce or Canvas. Participate in instructional staff meetings and regular learner progress reviews. Reinforce class policies including dress code, attendance, and participation. What You'll Bring to Us: Graduate of a Per Scholas training program (preferred), ideally in IT Support, Infrastructure, or Datacenter tracks. Successfully obtained all certifications offered in the program (e.g., CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent). Strong foundational understanding of: Networking fundamentals: OSI model, IP addressing, routing/switching basics. PC hardware architecture: BIOS/UEFI, RAM, CPU, storage, peripherals. Operating Systems: Hands-on experience with both Windows and Linux environments. Linux CLI proficiency: Navigation, file management, basic commands. Windows troubleshooting: Task Manager, Process Monitor, CPU/memory analysis. Familiarity with: Active Directory and related services (DNS, DHCP, GPOs). Virtualization platforms: VMware or VirtualBox. Cat5/5e/6 cable handling including termination and patch panel work. Classroom equipment setup, hardware configuration, and basic IT lab support. Experience using or supporting Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital tools (e.g., Canvas, Salesforce, Zoom). Ability to teach and support in a highly interactive, hands-on training environment. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask. Responsive communicator; comfortable with live feedback and digital communication. Compensation: For this role specifically, we are targeting a compensation of $18.00 an hour.
