Parts Specialist/Material Planner

Parts Specialist/Material Planners provide counter service to MBTA Bus and Light Rail employees who need parts/equipment to perform their duties. The Parts Specialist will assist with inventory control, data entry, and customer service. This is an hourly position. Responsibilities include providing quality customer service, attention to detail, and meeting and greeting customers. They will review requisition forms to ensure proper completion, answer questions regarding availability of parts, and inform customers when requested parts are available. They will maintain a neat and clean stock room area, perform regular cycle counts of material, and provide recommendations on min/max stocking levels. Stock Room Responsibilities include understanding warehouse storage plans and warehouse operations, performing manual counts and inventory reconciliation, verifying materials against receiving, shipping, storage, and inventory documents, routing materials to prescribed storage locations, storing, stacking, or palletizing materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods, managing and taking inventory of received, shipped, and/or stored materials daily, examining stored materials and reporting deterioration and damage, removing material from storage/receipt areas and preparing it for turn-in, processing and/or affixing receipt, shipment, storage, pick/pack, and other paperwork and reports as required, providing causative research for misidentified, damaged, non-located material as required, and operating hand or power trucks and/or forklift in performing warehousing duties. In addition, Material Planner will devote at least one (1) hour daily and five (5) hours weekly to his assigned base per scheduled shift to perform 5S functions (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain). This includes removal of trash and debris from the storeroom. This can be inspected by either MANCON management or MBTA leadership. Parts Pickup includes occasionally driving a vehicle to designated vendors' location to purchase/pick-up parts, providing documentation to vendors as required, reviewing all vendor invoices to ensure accuracy on pricing, parts, and quantities, and returning products to MANCON location in a timely manner. Data Entry includes generating customer requisitions in the inventory system and entering vendor receiving documents in the inventory system. Receive, stow and catalog in and out bound inventory. Other requirements include providing support to the MBTA location during emergencies, receiving material from main warehouse and other base locations by 8:00 am, adhering to required procedures, wearing location specific personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, and wearing company provided shirts daily. Qualifications include 1 year computer experience, warehouse, stockroom, or inventory management experience, and obtaining and maintaining a forklift license. Preferred qualifications include 1 year inventory experience, 1 year customer service role, experience in inventory/point of sale applications, experience with bus or light rail parts, familiarity with automotive, bus, or rail parts experience, automotive certification programs considered in conjunction with experience, ability to communicate in English, and a valid driver's license. Physical requirements include medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Essential requirements include lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking. Background check includes CORI criminal check (MBTA) and credit check. Medical requirements include drug screen and skills/competency check for forklift license.
