Description Performs manual labor as assistant on Storm Water Crew. Work involves assisting with the construction, repairing, cleaning and maintaining portions of the City's storm Water drainage system and other engineered infrastructure components. Work is performed under the direction of the Storm Water Foreman with guidance from the Engineering Division and reviewed by the Wastewater Collection Supervisor.
Examples of Duties
Assists with wash truck during cleaning of storm and sewer pipes and maintaining of storm and sewer lines to ensure proper operation. Assists with all phases of cleaning and maintaining sewer and storm lines and manholes according to engineering schedule. Assists with the construction and repair of the City's Storm Water drainage system and other engineered infrastructure components according to City standards. Loads and unloads material and equipment from trucks and trailers. Assists driver/operator perform backing maneuvers and other similar activities. Responsible for performing manual labor including digging ditches, trenches, or holes with hand tools and other work using power such as jackhammers, cut-off saws and compactors. Performs pre-trip inspections and simple maintenance tasks such as vehicle and equipment inspection, adding oil and other fluids, and fueling vehicles. Reports any defects to Foreman. Responsible for cleaning vehicles, equipment and work areas including Utility building, storage areas, and grounds. Ensures the safely operation of assigned vehicles and equipment. Abides by all City safety rules. Assists Wastewater Collection and Transmission and Distribution Divisions with repairs and maintenance on sewer and water lines, as required. Subject to overtime work and responds to job related emergencies as needed. Does related work as required.
Education and Experience High school diploma required. One-year experience in the operation of trucks, tractors or other equipment related to Storm Water and roadway construction, preferred. MOT Intermediate certificate and Storm Water Operator I certificate required or obtained within twelve (12) months.
Driver's License Requirement: Valid Florida Driver's License Classification B with air brakes and tanker endorsement (N).
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. We offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees including paid health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, life insurance, long-term disability, and up to 13 paid holidays. The City offers 2 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of sick leave, which accrues bi-weekly from your first day of work. In addition, the City provides 24 hours of time off for wellness and family, plus $300 per quarter in wellness or childcare reimbursements for non-probationary, full-time employees. Furthermore, the City pays out accrued leave at 100% for non-probationary employees who leave in good standing and provide a minimum of 2 weeks notice. While there are limits on the vacation leave paid, it is at a minimum of 480 hours and there is no limit on the sick leave paid out. The City also offers an option for employees to cash out up to 2 weeks of sick leave, twice per year (per policy).
