GENERAL PURPOSE

In a team environment, or while working independently, performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of parks, open spaces, grounds, turf, and related facilities. SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Reports to a Crew Leader. SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Regular attendance with the ability to work in an occupied environment. Take task from beginning to completion in a quick and efficient timeframe while managing multiple job orders, daily. Maintain parks and open space areas by conducting weed removal and lawn mowing. Clean and maintain court trimmings. Install, repair, and maintain sprinkler systems, lines, and heads. Wash, inspect, and perform routine maintenance of drinking fountains and restrooms. Sweep, wash, paint, repair or replace outdoor tables and slabs. Perform minor maintenance of open space structures. Perform routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment. Perform necessary ground preparation to plant lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers and maintain soil condition by watering and minding pest and weed control. Collect and dispose of solid waste and litter from buildings and grounds. Open/close and lock/unlock facilities as needed. Assist in setting up and taking down equipment and preparation of facility usage for various functions and programs. Install and maintain goal posts and nets for various sport facilities. Assist in the construction of new open space facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work. Maintain records of completed work. PERIPHERAL DUTIES

Complete all duties assigned by supervisor. Perform various custodial duties and backup duties for related positions as assigned. Assist in the maintenance of swimming pools and splashpads. Serve as a member of various employee committees, as designated. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS Knowledge

General knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance. General knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs. Skills

Beginner to intermediate skills in landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and cement skills. Abilities

Coordination of Work - Ability to follow daily work routine individually or in a team. Keeping to established priorities for the completion of work in accordance with provided schedules. Avoid duplication of effort. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and communicate effectively with supervisor and team members. Communication - Effective ability to communicate, orally and in writing, while also being able to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers. Communicate in a favorable manner with the public, when encountered, and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and supervisors. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Commercial Drives License Preferred. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Valid Texas Class C Driver's License is required.

Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.

A minimum of one (1) year of park maintenance experience is preferred.

A minimum of one (1) year of lawn, pool, welding, and general building maintenance is preferred.

Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Lawn/landscape equipment and general maintenance tools including but not limited to a tractor, backhoe, mower, aerator, chainsaw, edger, woodchippers, pressure washers, pumps, irrigation systems and miscellaneous hand and power tools. Swimming pool equipment including chlorination system, pumps, boiler, valves, filtration devices, gauges, and other equipment. Janitorial equipment including floor buffers, steam cleaner, carpet cleaner, washer, vacuum, and other equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is generally outside, and the employee is exposed to extreme heat in summer and cold in winter. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or high humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, dust, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The work environment is usually loud due to work equipment being operated.
