We're looking for a motivated team player to join us in shaping the future of space structures!About the Position:As a Mechanical Engineer on the Booms and Deployment Systems team, you will play an exciting role in developing lightweight, high-performance deployable structures for spacecraft and lunar surface operations. The ideal candidate will have some experience with designing deployable structures for spacecraft or composite engineering. In this dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to support various stages of the project lifecycle, from early ideation to assembly and flight validation. Responsibilities:Support the design and analysis of structural components and deployable systems through initial ideation, prototyping, qualification, and productionCreate CAD assemblies (SolidWorks), build documentation, and other mechanical drawings Provide hands-on support for assembly and integration of hardware in a clean room environment Test and validate structural components and designs for flight readinessIterate and prototype designs frequently, characterizing performance and documenting resultsCollaborate with production and analysis teams to meet project goals: adhering to quality standards, budgets, and timelinesExercise the ability to quickly adapt, pivot, and offer creative solutions to unforeseen challenges Perform other related duties as assignedQualifications:BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related discipline; MS preferred2+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably with spacecraft design, deployable structures, and/or compositesDemonstrated creative problem-solving in engineering Understanding of GD&T and standard analysis practicesFluency in CAD, preferably SolidWorksStrong organizational and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation)Team-oriented with the ability to be a self-starter and work independentlyFluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.)US citizen or permanent residentCompensation and Benefits:Salary range of $80,000 - $115,000, based on experience and qualificationsFlexible and hybrid work schedules: 9/80 or 10/80 schedules, with two or more days in officeOpterus pays 100% of employees' premiums and 70% of dependents' premiumsMedical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life and AD&D insurances401K matching up to 4%9 paid holidaysWork within a community-oriented environment at Forge Campus.
