About Chelsea Opportunity Academy:

Established in 2018, the Chelsea Opportunity Academy (COA) is the city's school for students who are facing the risk of dropping out of high school, or those who have already discontinued and are seeking re-engagement due to competing priorities outside of school. Offering nurturing staff-student relationships aimed at fostering the healing of trauma, our program provides a flexible operating schedule to support the nearly 80% of students who are working while earning their diploma. Additionally, our curated curriculum is designed to drive students towards success post-graduation. With the school's strongest core value being "Every Day is a New Day", the Chelsea Opportunity Academy empowers students to redefine themselves and envision a brighter future. To date, the Chelsea Opportunity Academy has graduated over 200 students, all of whom are in post-secondary institutes or gainfully employed. COA is seeking a principal who understands and embraces the unique spirit of our school, builds strong relationships with students and staff, and holds a deep belief that all students can thrive when loved, supported, and challenged.

Qualifications:

The ideal Assistant Principal must have experience in working a with high-need/high-potential student population including current students, dropouts, and students who could not enroll due to age and credit deficits. The ideal candidate for this position must also have an understanding of or interest in learning about competency based education, asynchronous learning, and project based learning, or a strong desire to learn. Other important qualifications include: Demonstrated proactivity and reliability A desire to embody the culture of COA with all acts and decisions A strong track record of building strong and meaningful relationships with students, including English Language Learners. A deep understanding of school culture and creating systems of belonging within an organization. Success in managing small teams aimed at supporting young people. Experience planning community engagement and outreach events. Open-mindedness and flexibility as well as an ability to problem solve. Be able to approach students without judgment and model growth mindset in all interactions. Value professional collaboration and be able to give and receive constructive feedback. Experience teaching - either at the elementary, secondary, or post-secondary level - preferred. Experience in working with and developing partnerships with community based organizations. Demonstrated track record of working with parents in the school setting. An understanding of SEL/trauma-informed strategies in the classroom. Experience in managing teams during crisis situations. Interest in running/learning to run school operations and continuing to hone systems for efficiency and alignment to school mission and values. Experience in working with social media and stakeholder engagement strongly preferred. Spanish proficiency strongly preferred. Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Act as point person for all community and school engagement events including, but not limited to, parent engagement events, all seniors events including graduation, staff culture events Oversee post-secondary planning for all COA students Manage a robust portfolio of outside partnerships Act as primary support person for our Dropout Prevention Specialists Act a primary evaluator for several COA staff members Co-lead all COA operations, gradual releasing to full leadership Plan and implement professional development on identity and culture in schools Manage all COA home visits and outreach Assist in the planning of all COA staff professional development Serves as head of school when Principal is away Serve as an advisor to a cohort of 15-20 COA students Qualifications Required:

Minimum five (5) years effective teaching experience, so related experience, and Master's Degree MA DESE license as an Assistant Principa l Belief in our vision of Equity and a willingness to find solutions Experience with a culturally diversified population Demonstrated leadership ability Demonstrated competence and experience in supervision and evaluation Proven ability to work well with parents and community organizations Knowledge of State and Federal Education Laws Ability to follow and implement school system policies and procedures Experience as, or capability to become, a leader of educational reform Above qualifications may be waived by the Superintendent of Schools Citizenship, residency or work visa required Qualifications Preferred:

Bilingual Spanish Experience with English Language Learners and/or Special Education Students Experience in collaborative educational environment and shared decision-making modeled on Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Experience in curriculum development and assessment with Understanding by Design, Performance Assessments and Instruction Round Model
