Sacramento State Athletics sponsors 21 NCAA Division I sports programs and is a proud member of the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets have a strong tradition of athletic excellence, including multiple conference championships across sports such as football, baseball, track and field, and women's rowing. The department is committed to fostering student-athlete success on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Sacramento State recently announced a move to the Big West conference for the majority of our athletic programs. Beginning July 1, 2026, a total of 16 teams will compete for Big West championships beginning in the 2026-27 season in the sports of baseball, men's and women's basketball, beach volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track & field and women's volleyball. This is a particularly exciting time to join Sacramento State Athletics and help shape the future of a program on the rise. This position reports directly to the Vice President for University Advancement and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Athletic Director. The Senior Associate Athletic Director Development also serves as a member of both the University Advancement Leadership Team and the Athletic Department Leadership Team. The Senior Associate Athletic Director Development serves as a strategic resource to development colleagues, offering guidance on giving strategies and emerging fundraising opportunities. This role also includes leadership and oversight of all aspects of Athletics fundraising projects and capital campaigns, ensuring that initiatives are aligned with institutional priorities and executed with excellence. The position operates within a complex academic and athletic environment and requires a collaborative, strategic, and results-oriented professional with a deep understanding of athletic development, capital giving, and campaign management. Evening and weekend work, as well as travel, is expected. FLSA : Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation). This position is benefits-eligible. Anticipated Hiring Range : $10,000 per month - $12,000 per month; commensurate with the candidate's education, experience, skill, and training. CSU Classification Salary Range :$6,891 per month - $22,119per month Work Hours : Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Work hours may vary depending on department needs. Self-starter able to secure personal appointments and qualify new prospects. Demonstrated achievement and securing significant philanthropic gifts; bring practical fundraising experience in developing strategies for high-level prospects who have the capacity to make transformative gifts. Strong collegial interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication ability as reflected in proposals, oral presentations, and strategic plans. Broad knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques, preferably in a complex academic setting and proven success in building productive, long-term relationships with key business leaders, senior University leaders, faculty, staff, volunteer boards, and high-level donors. Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies; comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-oriented, and structured environment. Ability to travel to visit donors and/or attend scheduled strategic events. Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Knowledge of capital gifts. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community. Condition of Employment
Ability to pass background check PreferredQualifications Five or more years experience in leadership role(s) in university or college advancement. Experience with principal gift fundraising and an understanding of all aspects of a campaign and campaign management. Experience with capital campaigns and proven success in managing capital projects. Advanced degree. Ability to perform evening and weekend on-call responsibilities. Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations, with a demonstrated passion for NCAA athletics and a commitment to supporting student-athletes.
