INVENTORY CONTROL TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Establishes and maintains required reports for business, purchasing, and administration; compiles and maintains records of quantity, type and value of product stocked; establishes and maintains warehouse inventories and monthly cycle counts at the Nutrition Services Warehouse. Responsible for the accuracy of inventory through periodic counting of all inventory parts for multiple sites; performs spot audits on products at Nutrition Services Warehouse; responsible for the accuracy of inventory, analysis reports, audit of cycle count results, and the analysis of all discrepancies; prepare, plan and evaluate the implementation of storage techniques; prepare ad hoc projects when needed. Works closely with the Warehouse Supervisor, General Manager, and Menu Planner to ensure operational effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inventory Management & Control
Set up and implement material control processes in an educational environment. Develop and implement CSI/ISO procedures. Maintain accurate inventory records and controls. Organize and conduct weekly cycle counts to verify inventory accuracy. Responsible for reporting all cycle count and inventory audit results. Maintain cycle count results history and establish corrective procedures for discrepancies. Run warehouse exception reports and investigate irregularities. Process all discrepancy transactions through computerized systems. Analyze and determine causes of discrepancies with Nutrition Services Operations Business staff. Order Processing & Fulfillment
Prepare work and pick orders. Receive and fill out orders from school kitchen managers. Assist with site-to-site transfers. Reassign back orders and ensure fulfillment as products become available. Inventory Auditing & Reconciliation
Cycle count inventory parts for multiple sites per designated schedule. Count products in stock and post totals to inventory records. Compare inventories to office records or compute figures from records (e.g., sales orders, production records, purchase invoices). Calculate reorder points. Verify software records against physical counts and adjust errors or report discrepancies. Prepare reports such as product activity, inventory balance, price lists, and backorders. Shipping & Receiving
Receive shipments delivered by vendors. Check shipments for accuracy against purchase orders and invoices. Notify supervisor of discrepancies. Convey shipments to storage using hand tools, forklifts, or pallet jacks. Store shipments by established procedures. Make entries on delivery forms, stock records, and related documents. Ensure proper handling of items during loading, transit, unloading, and storage. Sample audit inbound and outbound loads. Warehouse Operations & Logistics
Work closely with the Warehouse Supervisor and General Manager to plan and schedule material deliveries. Establish efficient and consistent route delivery schedules to all District sites. Deliver products to District sites using Warehouse delivery trucks as needed. Supervise warehouse staff on-site when applicable. Perform general warehouse duties as directed by Nutrition Leadership. Interdepartmental Collaboration
Participate with peers to develop/refine departmental processes. Interface with other departments to resolve inventory issues. Additional Duties
Performs other duties related to the position, as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that could provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:
Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma. Course work in accounting, finance, and computer science is desirable.
Experience: Three (3) years' responsible experience in inventory control or equivalent and working in a general warehouse distribution environment.
Licenses/Certificates: None.
