Job Title: RN - Neonatal ICU Profession: RN Specialty: Neonatal ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of strong Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience License: RN Certifications: BLS, NRP Must-Have: - Must be comfortable in a high acuity, fast-paced environment - Manager approval required for first-time travelers Description: 247 licensed beds. Level 1 pediatric trauma center. Teaching hospital with a chest pain center and certified stroke center. Unit information includes 53 beds plus overflow with an average patient census of 58. Patient types and common diagnoses include respiratory distress syndrome, transient tachypnea of the newborn, meconium aspiration syndrome, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and congenital heart defects. Also includes seizures, intraventricular hemorrhage, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, necrotizing enterocolitis, feeding intolerance, and sepsis. Patient ratios vary on acuity with 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 ratios. Skills required include: - EPIC experience - EVD management - Camino device management - Vasoactive drip titration management - Invasive line management - Aseptic and sterile techniques - Basic dressing changes - Ventilator and tracheostomy management - Feeding tube management - Chest tube management - Sedation and analgesic drip management - Foley insertion and management - Discharge skills - CRRT experience - Baby side of ECMO Support within the department includes: - Unit secretary every shift - Charge nurse available 24/7 - Resource nurse 24/7 - In-house intensivist and residents - Unit-based educators and clinical supervisors Technology and equipment include: - EMR: EPIC - IV Pump: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps - Med dispensing: Omnicell - Monitors: Philips - Equipment: PIV ultrasound and Tecotherm Unit requirements include working holidays, weekends, and some rotational shifts. Dress code requires solid navy or white scrubs, no tight scrubs, and pediatric-friendly scrub tops. Practice guidelines call for bare below elbow in nurseries, meaning no watches, permanent jewelry, rings, or artificial nails.
