ioby seeks an experienced finance professional to join our team as our Director of Finance.
For the right candidate, this is an exciting opportunity to have a transformative impact at a quickly growing nonprofit startup by building increased financial capacity, supporting strategic direction through finance expertise, and ensuring a foundation for continued growth. This role is critical in expanding the organization’s leadership.
ioby’s finances are unique because: 1) we manage a complex online crowd-resourcing platform with thousands of small donations monthly; 2) we aim for increased financial self-sustainability through an earned income model based on high transaction volumes.
The role involves systems upgrading, building, and maintenance. We seek a candidate comfortable leading this transition, hands-on problem solver in a startup environment. Reporting to the COO, this position is supported by our Operations Director and outsourced bookkeepers.

Job Objectives
Oversee fiscal reporting activities, including revenue/expenses, balance sheets, budgets, and federal/state filings. Develop tools and systems to provide financial and operational information to leadership and the Finance Committee. Monitor financial performance, analyze trends, recommend corrective actions. Assess and build new financial systems supporting organizational growth, reporting, efficiency, and modeling. Identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and system enhancements. Use financial analyses and models to inform strategic planning. Job Activities
Leadership: Provide financial analyses to support decisions on growth, investments, reserves, and scenarios. Recommend benchmarks for financial performance. Support leadership with timely financial insights. Assist the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee with reporting. Collaborate with fundraising to ensure cash flow adequacy. Ensure compliance with reporting and tax requirements. Train managers in financial management. Management: Manage outsourced accounting/finance services. Lead RFP for audit, manage relations, and oversee findings. Recommend staffing plans for finance growth. Manage budgets, cash flow, AR/AP, and financial performance metrics. Systems Building & Maintenance: Build organizational financial systems and staff capacity. Lead data migration, process development, and staff training. Oversee finance IT systems and integrations. Maintain documented accounting policies per GAAP. This position is based in Brooklyn, with openness to remote candidates, especially in cities with offices. Regular hours are 9-6pm ET, Monday-Friday, with occasional outside hours. As a startup, innovation, adaptability, and continuous improvement are expected. REQUIREMENTS
Career Experience in Finance
Candidates must have: Ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-experts. Experience building or upgrading financial systems. Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting, grant reporting, and fund-based accounting. Experience producing and analyzing standard financial reports. Experience managing complex organizational finances with multiple programs, locations, and funding sources. Experience working with fundraising teams on revenue forecasting and grant reporting. Discretion handling sensitive financial information. Preferred experiences include: Experience in scaling startups or growing organizations. Experience with organizations over 25 staff or $5MM+ budgets. Experience with high transaction volumes, crowdfunding, or e-commerce. Experience with CRM systems like Salesforce. Familiarity with Quickbooks and nonprofit accounting software. Characteristics
Must have: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 10+ years in finance or related fields, preferably in nonprofits. Ability to prioritize and stay focused under pressure.
