ABOUT BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS THE RIVER
Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in-class facilities, programs and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health and well-being. BuildingBridges envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. Building Bridges Theory of Change is to reduce structural barriers to social and economic mobility to build a more equitable city. To achieve this, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs inWards 7 and 8 including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), Building Bridges Farms, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center. In 2005, Building Bridges first facility was THEARC at 110,000 square feet and since then, has grown to 203,000 square feet housing 14 best in class non-profits, representing the largest social service, multisector, nonprofit collaboration in the country. 2025 marks several major milestones for the organization including celebration of THEARC's 20th anniversary, opening of the fourth campus building for the Washington School for Girls and groundbreaking of the 11th Street Bridge Park.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director of Individual Giving will prioritize cultivating and securing individual and major gifts donations. This position will identify, develop and secure new individual donor prospects and provide support to various campaigns. They will set annual goals with the Executive Vice President and Development team, create strategies for major gift prospects, lead gift solicitation, and manage deadlines to ensure the organization meets financial targets. The Director of Individual Giving position will assist in oversight and management of volunteer fundraising committees such as the Advisory Committee and events such as the annual Gala and spring Tea.
The position requires local travel and some evening and weekend work. Staff are expected to work from the office at THEARC when not in donor meetings.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Building Bridges Director of Individual Giving will be responsible for the following: Maintain a dynamic portfolio of 100-150 high-net-worth individuals and secure major and annual gifts. Increase individual giving through the cultivation of individual donors. Create strategy for all major gift prospects, ensuring that they are regularly evaluated to determine where they are in the donor lifecycle from qualification to cultivation to solicitation to stewardship. Manage fundraising for events, including annual gala and Tea. Determine point of contact for each prospect and bring in executive leadership and/or Development staff for solicitation where appropriate. Secure individual major gifts at the $25,000 to $2,000,000 level with the goal of raising a minimum of $1,000,000 annually. Manage Development Coordinator in charge of gift entry, stewardship, annual giving, and event support, setting clear priorities with annual financial goals in mind, promoting professional growth through continuing education and coaching, and ensuring deadlines are met. Draft major gift proposals. Conduct donor research to qualify prospects for portfolio. Track moves management through donor database, including entering contact reports and new donor records. Work with the development department to align efforts and individual as well as departmental goals. Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition. Track and report progress quarterly using specific metrics for major gifts and individual giving. Collaborate regularly with development team to strategize about status of stewardship, prospecting, proposals, and appeals; evaluate areas needing focus and growth. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Passionate about the mission of Building Bridges and serving under-resourced communities. B.A./B.S. degree, preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible development experience Demonstrated record of conceiving and implementing fundraising strategies to secure five- and six-figure gifts Self-motivated with exceptional customer service skills. Excellent written (including editing and proofreading) and verbal communication skills, including the ability to understand and translate Building Bridges mission to different audiences. Demonstrated supervisory experience. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, as well as have excellent multitasking abilities to participate in a variety of projects. Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the use of software (Windows OS, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and donor databases such as Donor Perfect) and the ability to use or learn technology used at Building Bridges, including iWave research platform and WordPress web management. Intellectually curious, creative, and strategic thinker. Able to think out of the box, challenge conventional norms, and try new approaches. Has a high level of emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and interpersonal skills. A team player with a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to Building Bridges mission and objectives. Sound judgment and integrity with discretion in handling and securing confidential information, as well as the ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
