Job Summary
Coordinates the transplant department and provides comprehensive nursing care to patients and families during all phases of the transplant program.Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities of a nurse clinician as required.
Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history, assisting in physical exam and psychosocial assessment. Reviews and reports the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radio graphic data and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the transplant physician.
Coordinates and manages assessment and care for donor referrals from the National Marrow Donor Program. Facilitates or schedules consultations for all referrals as required, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures and future appointments required for admission to the program and throughout the transplant process.
Oversees management of symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to the intense high dose therapy, stem cell rescue and rehabilitation following rescue in collaboration with transplant physician.
Provides psychosocial support to patients and families throughout therapy and rehabilitation, and as necessary, facilitates communication among patient/family, physician and interdisciplinary team through facilitation of regular case conferences.
Provides expert care for the transplant patient at all phases of the process consistent with established standards and utilization of the nursing process.
Maintains written and/or computer documentation of all patient care and treatments provided and paperwork required for reimbursement purposes in accordance with organizational standards.
Assists with the reporting of data to company Transplant Network, International and Autologous Blood and Marrow Transplant Registries, the NDMP and other appropriate bodies. Incorporates company Transplant Network recommendations into clinical practice.
Develops and maintains quality assurance and outcome monitoring program. Participates in the development and implementation of standards for transplant patients in conjunction with other health care professionals.
Participates in clinical studies relative to chemotherapy and care of the transplant patient. Interprets and communicates research and published data to nursing staff and other health care professionals relative to transplant patients.
Functions as a change agent to proactively improve nursing care practices relative to the transplant team. Serves as a consultant/liaison in transplantation to inpatient and outpatient nurses and other health care professionals (i.e. case managers, research nurses, social workers, home health agencies and other facilities). Coordinates care of the patients as needed with the above-mentioned entities. Coordinates and manages assessment and care for donor referrals from the National Marrow Donor Program. Maintains and updates all surveys, communication tools to assist with coordination. Provides patient, family, community, and professional education to those interested in the process of transplantation. Assists with marketing of transplant program to other health care professionals, payors, and community. Assists with marketing events and functions of the transplant program as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Experience - Two (2) years oncology and chemotherapy administration experience
