Job Description:Continental Tide is seeking amotivated, energetic, and experienced Engineering Technician with astrong structural background and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) leadershipexperience to support our ship modernization and sustainment projects in Norfolk,VA. This is a field-oriented leadership role ideal for a hands-on technicalprofessional experienced in the installation, modification, and repair of U.S.Navy ship structures. The successful candidate will oversee installationefforts and coordinate all aspects of structural and mechanical work duringshipboard alterations and repairs, ensuring work is performed safely,efficiently, and in compliance with Navy and contract standards.*Please note due to the anticipated volume of responses, we will contact only those candidates who most closely match our requirements. Only local candidates will be considered.Essential duties & responsibilities include, butare not limited to the following:
Serveas the structural SME and project lead for hull, mechanical and structuralrepairs projects, managing day-to-day operations onboard ships and in shipyardenvironments.
Leadstructural teams in the layout, cutting, fitting, installation, and alignmentof structural components including bulkheads, deck inserts, framing, andfoundations.
InterpretNAVSEA drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to plan and executestructural work packages in compliance with 9090-310 REV H or latest version.
Superviseand mentor shipfitters, mechanics, welders, and helpers to ensure qualitycraftsmanship and safe work practices.
Collaboratewith Project Leads, Program Managers, Engineers, QA &QC, and customerrepresentatives to resolve issues and align project goals.
Assistin tracking and report daily progress, labor hours, and material usage; assistin scheduling and forecasting work.
Ensureall structural work adheres to NAVSEA Standard Items, ABS requirements, OSHAregulations, and company policies.
Adhereto, maintain, and update all QA documentation OQE to include but not limited toweld maps, inspections, and post-repair testing.
Identifyand mitigate project risks, support change orders, and contribute toafter-action reporting.
Asrequired perform duties and responsibilities as Site Foremen as a project lead foroverall task assignment.
SubmitDaily Status Reports (DSR), develop Condition Found Reports, and updateprogress utilizing Microsoft Project in POA&M (plans of action &milestone) format.
Experience and Skills Targetexperience of ten (10) years of experience in shipfitting or structural shiprepair, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or lead role. Technicalexpert in shipboard structural repairs including insert installation, hullcuts, and steel fabrication. Strongunderstanding of QAWBs, OQE documentation, and structural inspection processes. Provenleadership skills in a shipboard or industrial repair environment. Eligibleto obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. Mustbe able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and aboard vessels. Proficientin reading and interpreting NAVSEA drawings, welding symbols, and installationspecifications. Due to export control regulations, this role is open to U.S. citizens only.
Preferred Requirements: Experiencewith maintaining budgets and material. FormerU.S. Navy Hull Technician (HT) or shipyard trade certification in structuralfabrication or welding. Weldingcertifications (FCAW, SMAW, GMAW) are a plus. Experiencewith HPUs, Valves, Pumps/Motors, Hydraulic systems is a plus. Experiencesupporting NAVSEA modernization programs. Experience communicating directly with management,subcontractors, and customers regarding project cost, staffing, and scheduling. Background in preparing status reports and ensuring plansadhere to contract specifications. OSHA10 or 30 Maritime Certification. Experienceutilizing Microsoft Office.
Physical Requirements: Exposureto open-air environments. Requiredto visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore. Wearvarious types of personal protective equipment (PPE), (i.e. ear plugs, safetyglasses, hard-hat, steel-toed boots, gloves) as required. Sitevisits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending,crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, andinternal barge or boat structural components. Exposureto sound levels exceeding 100 decibels. Mustpossess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, andnight vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects orirregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment. Maywork in confined spaces with limited ventilation. Requireprolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing. Maybe required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment. Mustbe able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information. Frequentexposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and extreme cold. Mustbe able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on the task requirements.
