Description

As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient-focused care within the Specialty Service. The Patient Care Associate supports the registered nurse in patient care activities, such as assisting patients with activities of daily living, collecting specimens and performing procedures; maintaining a safe, clean environment; and other duties as needed.

Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities: Functions as a member of a patient-focused multidisciplinary care team providing a full range of services to patients in an assigned area (Inpatient units, Emergency Department, Surgical Services, ICU). Participates in the patients' admission and orientation to the unit, obtains and records data. Responsible for assisting patients with changing; securing of valuables; review of unit rules and regulations and providing orientation to room and unit. Assists with preparation and updating of the nursing care plan, interdisciplinary treatment team plan and assists with therapeutic interventions in order to implement the plans as established. Performs selected direct care duties including therapeutic intervention, taking of vital signs and other health-related data, specimen collection, personal hygiene, activities of daily living, performing procedures/treatments, EKGs, finger sticks, and participation in house-wide ambulation and shower program as directed. Ability to organize the activities of multiple patients and to function, communicate, and collaborate in a team approach.

Qualifications

Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required. 1-2 years current experience as a PCA/CNA preferred or Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, Finger stick and EKG skills, Computer skills. BLS required (American Heart Association). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients and families. Collective bargaining unit: SEIU Local 144-MSB-NonRN Compensation Statement The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $28.48 - $30.29 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
