Job Description
Job Title: Surgical Technologist
Profession: CST/ORT

Shift: Monday - Friday
Hours per Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Experience: 2 or more years preferred
License: High School Diploma or equivalent required
Certifications: BLS required, Certification of Surgical Technologist preferred
Must-Have:
CVOR experience required, candidates must be able to first-scrub a heart.
Must be proficient in CABG/MVR/AVR.
Description:
Performs a variety of technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients.
Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
Transports patients to and from the operating room suite.
Positions patients according to the type of surgery.
Identifies and cares for biological specimens.
Prepares the operating room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case.
Establishes and maintains the sterile field, passes instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assists as directed by the physician.
Uses the physician preference card as a starting point when pulling cases and setting up the operating room.
Ensures that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
Works effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient.
Cooperates in team planning and execution.
Maintains a safe environment by always implementing technical and aseptic practices.
Demonstrates clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Adheres to universal barrier precautions for patient and personal safety in all patient care situations.
Demonstrates competence to monitor and control the surgical environment.
Maintains proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to operating room sanitation policies and procedures.
Familiar with facility policy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments and supplies.
Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served.
Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs of each patient served.
Performs other duties as assigned.
