Position Summary The AVP, Portfolio Management will assist the Portfolio Manager(s) in overseeing their respective portfolios on behalf of Berkshire. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The AVP, Portfolio Management will participate in decision making with the Portfolio Manager(s) in all aspects of effectively overseeing their respective portfolios including but not limited to the following: Annual Portfolio Business Plan, which includes long-term and tactical strategies Investment selection for portfolio Investment management and disposition strategy Client relationship management and communication Cash management – capital calls/distributions Financing strategy for portfolio and properties Internal/Investor reporting and meetings Provide analytical support as requested by Portfolio Manager(s) Work with client directly and with client’s consultants, including tax, if necessary Prepare Annual Property Business Plans, with oversight by Portfolio Manager Work with Portfolio Manager on impact of tactical changes to Property and Portfolio Business Plans on projected performance as per Portfolio Model Monitor, oversee and report on Property Management’s execution of business plans Prepare monthly and quarterly performance reports for management and investors with approval by Portfolio Manager Visit markets and properties to validate business plan assumptions, monitor property operations, and identify opportunities and issues in order to improve operations Benchmark property performance against industry and peers Budget review, oversight, and analysis Stay abreast of relative market information for all markets related to the portfolio. Work closely with Berkshire’s Research team to stay abreast of their viewpoint and recommended course of action for each market they cover Work with Portfolio Valuation & Analytics Group in quarterly property valuations Consistently demonstrate use of tact and discretion Knowledge/Experience: At least seven (7) years of experience in the real estate industry Previous experience in portfolio management preferred, asset management or acquisitions Ability to identify problems early and solve them effectively with minimal assistance Experience with multifamily value creation opportunities and the ability to act on them through others Have the ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships with a range of individuals including Clients, Portfolio Reporting, Portfolio Valuation and Analytics, Property Management and Acquisitions and Dispositions Ability to take direction from multiple sources while effectively managing multiple, changing priorities Ability to assess and quantify risk Real estate accounting and tax knowledge a plus Demonstrated management skills with track record of building teams and identifying, mentoring, and growing talent in-person and virtual Aptitude for organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple priorities, using critical thinking and problem solving Demonstrated multi-modal communication style that reaches every stakeholder, specifically excellent verbal, and written communications Collaborative working style with inclusive work and thinking behaviors, commitment to excellence in teams and work product, with a strong work ethic Proficiency and willingness to adopt new systems and processes Demonstrate emotional intelligence in high pressure and sensitive situations Ability to see, analyze and understand business dealings in terms of the overall business plan Tenacity, patience, and perseverance to work with business deals from beginning to end of process Represent the Berkshire employment brand well to candidates by seeking to understand the capabilities and insights of people with unique backgrounds, cultures, styles, and abilities Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and communications of information Develop productive working relationships with all team members including internal clients and external third parties Demonstrated high level of ethics and integrity with a straightforward and honest approach Technical/Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. MBA, related Master’s degree or CFA a plus Experience with Yardi, Argus and other asset management applications, a plus Demonstrated advanced financial modeling and Excel skills required Demonstrated ability to use and learn new technology (e.g., computers/hardware, mobile, software, cloud-based programs) Proficiency with computers, keyboards, monitors and telephone headsets. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Products (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, Power Point) including ability to perform excel modeling including cash flow modeling and various return calculations and analysis Berkshire Residential offers an
