To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements. Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited medical school. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or other local programs deemed appropriate by the Medical Staff Executive Committee. Residents in accredited programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed, appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, and do not have independent practice privileges. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements include ability to perform duties in a hospital setting, lift and carry 45 lbs, reach above shoulder, walk or stand for hours, and perform rapid coordination tasks. Correctable near vision and hearing aids permitted. Duties

SAVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Applicants must be eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona to facilitate teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Participation in outpatient clinics, inpatient consult services, and hospitalist services. The duties include active participation in quality improvement, supervision and training of trainees, maintaining BLS certification, and compliance with VA and SAVAHCS regulations.
