A Brief Overview The Special Procedures Tech is responsible for performing radiographic procedures in compliance with hospital safety standards, including ALARA, Image Gently, and Image Wisely guidelines. This role ensures patient safety, identifies and follows hospital policies and procedures, and delivers high-quality imaging while providing excellent patient care across all age groups (neonates to geriatrics). The position also requires adherence to HIPAA privacy standards, proper equipment maintenance, and accurate record-keeping. The role requires a detail-oriented, independent worker who can solve problems, maintain equipment, and contribute to a successful, patient-centered department.

What You Will Do Demonstrates competency in patient positioning and technical imaging skills by producing a variety of radiographic procedures while maintaining the highest standards of age-specific patient care from neonates through geriatrics. Uses administrative skills to contribute to the successful operation of the department by scanning all items in the inventory system and, entering and completing correct billing codes in the RIS and on the patient billing sheets. Effectively follows directions to maintain compliance with State and Federal Agencies Effectively follows directions to maintain department readiness based on DNV standards Able to perform all applicable equipment Quality Control Accurately records all requested database/log records. Maintains licensure and continuing education requirements. Proficient at instructing students and new staff after 1 year of experience. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently.

Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications

Education Qualifications Associate's Degree Associates degree or completion of an accredited 2-year program in a school of Radiologic Technology. (Required) Experience Qualifications ·

2+ years Experience as a registered Radiologic Technologist (Preferred) or ·

2+ years as a registered Radiologic Technologist with IR experience (Preferred) ·

Proficient at instructing students and new staff after 1 year of experience. (Required) and ·

Clear knowledge of modality specific equipment, computers, Inventory systems, PACS, EMR and RIS. (Required) and ·

Must demonstrate the ability to work independently. (Required) and ·

Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise. (Required) and ·

Clear knowledge of image and exam protocols. (Required) Skills and Abilities ·

Ability to perform interventional procedures in specified areas (Required proficiency) ·

Uses a variety of equipment specific to the area, including single-plane and bi-plane angiographic equipment, power injectors, and various medical devices and computers. (Required proficiency) ·

Knowledge of proper sterile procedure technique, gowning and gloving, and infection control. (Required proficiency) ·

Must demonstrate effective organizational, written, and oral communication skills. (Required proficiency) ·

Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications ·

Registered Technologist Radiography (ARRT-R) Active certification from American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) (Required Upon Hire) ·

Active Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Radiographer License (Required Upon Hire) and ·
