What you'll do...
We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join our science team and develop state-of-the-art models to power Product Search across Walmart’s multiple international markets. Our mission is to provide our customers with the most delightful user experience throughout their online shopping journey with us. We create powerful AI and ML powered solutions for highly intricate real-world problems. You will work on these industry-defining problems and push the frontiers of Search Science by advancing areas including information retrieval, search, recommendation systems, natural language processing, optimization, algorithms, and large customer-facing systems and service designs.
- Partner with other data scientists, engineers, and product managers to design, train, test, and deploy machine learning models.
- Work on projects with substantial ambiguity and translate business and engineering requirements into a clear ML development roadmap.
- Perform rigorous offline and A/B testing of models and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bring in cutting-edge academic research and industry practices, demonstrating originality and creativity in developing novel Search solutions.
- Maintain and improve models within a scalable infrastructure, incorporating the latest research.
- Mentor early-career data scientists, serve as a technical lead, and contribute as a technology expert within the organization.
- Encourage publication of research and findings in industry conferences, journals, and filings for patents.
What you will bring...
- MS/PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related field, with 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Deep expertise in NLP, Search Science, Recommendation Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Optimization, Algorithms, and Software Development.
- Prior knowledge of Search or Recommendation Technologies and Generative AI is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, PySpark, Machine Learning Libraries, and Big Data processing in cloud environments.
- Experience leading impactful customer-facing projects, mentoring data scientists, and publishing in peer-reviewed venues or filing patents.
Additional Information
Walmart offers competitive pay, performance bonuses, and comprehensive benefits including health, retirement, PTO, and more. The annual salary range for this position is $143,000 to $286,000, with potential additional compensation such as stock options and bonuses.
