Job description
This opportunity is in support of an active DoD missile contract as a lead systems engineer. You will be an active contributor, reviewer, and editor of systems engineering documentation such as System Performance Specifications, Interface Control Documents, and System Requirement Specifications. This position requires advancing our practice of Systems Engineering (SE) focused on modernized engineering practices and frameworks such as Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), Weapon Open System Architecture (WOSA), and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). You will decompose customer requirements into system-level functional and non-functional requirements, allocate them to hardware/software subsystems, derive lower-level specifications, and establish traceability for verification and validation. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and problem-solving skills to deliver high-quality solutions in a fast-paced environment. As a team member, you will collaborate with the larger multidisciplinary team involving DoD customers and stakeholders, the MBSE lead, the Chief Engineer and deputies, as well as cross-functional engineers. You will lead a small team that will expand with the contract, including hiring, mentoring, and tasking future systems engineering team members. You must work on-site in our office in Fairfax, Virginia.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering or a related field.
REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience with systems engineering of complex DoD systems, ideally weapon platforms.
    • Expertise with requirements analysis and decomposition, technical writing and editing, and system/component requirement allocation.
  • Experience with configuration management tools and issue tracking systems (e.g., GitHub).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Knowledge and experience with MBSE, digital engineering practices, and engineering analysis tools.
  • Ability to work within our company and team culture.
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret-level security clearance.
  • Proficiency with a Kanban-based development lifecycle is a plus.
  • Knowledge of U.S. military standards and specifications is a plus.
