Overview:
The Catholic Community Foundation of Southwest Florida is seeking a mission-aligned, detail-oriented, and strategic Director of Finance to oversee and manage all accounting and financial functions of the Foundation. As a key member of the team, this individual will serve as both a strategic advisor and a hands-on accountant, ensuring the financial integrity, sustainability, and growth of the Foundation in support of its Catholic mission.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Operations (Hands-On Responsibilities):
  • Manage all day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, receivable, journal entries, bank reconciliations, assigning accurate accounting codes, grant distributions, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Become the subject matter expert regarding the Foundation's integrated accounting, CRM and grant management system (Foundant's CommunitySuite).
  • Maintain accurate records of endowment funds, donor-advised funds, charitable gift annuities, and restricted/unrestricted funds.
  • Coordinate with other Foundation staff regarding gift processing, grant letters, acknowledgments, etc.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual audit with external accountants.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and internal controls.
Strategic Financial Leadership:
  • Partner with the Executive Director to develop and monitor the annual budget and long-term financial forecasts.
  • Provide financial analysis and insight to guide strategic planning, investment decisions, and growth initiatives.
  • Assist in managing investment portfolios and bank accounts and serve as a key liaison with investment advisors and finance/audit committees.
  • Support the Foundation's stewardship and fundraising goals through accurate and transparent reporting.
  • Analyze trends and recommend actions to ensure the Foundation's financial health and mission sustainability.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a nonprofit or foundation setting.
  • Proficiency in nonprofit fund accounting, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Willingness to perform both high-level financial strategy and day-to-day transactional work.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., Foundant, QuickBooks, Blackbaud, or similar platforms).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • High degree of integrity, confidentiality, and alignment with the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
  • Understanding of philanthropy, the structure and operation of the Catholic Church, donor-advised funds, and endowment management preferred.
  • Experience working with or within a Catholic organization or community foundation preferred.
