Educational And Work Requirements
- Bachelors degree in business administration, Finance or Accounting required or 7+ years of experience in an Accounting/Finance related role.
- Three to five years experience in finance with supervisory experience.
- Two years of General Ledger experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid Michigan Drivers license with acceptable driving record as required by insurance company.
- Sufficient health, ability, experience, and education to perform the assigned duties with or without accommodation. Belief in Covenant House Mission Statement and desire to fulfill the mission.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of homeless and at-risk youth that Covenant House Michigan serves
- Ability to effectively communicate and maintain effective working relationships with staff/internal/external clients.
- Ability to work primarily at desk/computer for approximately 8 hours per day.
- Ability to lift and move items typically weighing 5-35 pounds.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
- Ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons.
- High technology proficiency to learn, adopt, and utilize various accounting, finance and other technology.
- Uphold CHMI standards of conduct, policies and procedures in the spirit of the Covenant House Mission at all times.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled or mandatory meetings, training and supervision sessions as requested.
- Develop, improve, and administer financial management policies and procedures in a manner consistent with corporate guidelines and local needs under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer.
- Manage the accounts payable function, assures proper documentation of all payments, interacts as necessary with vendors to insure that accounts are current.
- Oversee the deposit of all monetary contributions and other revenues in a timely manner and maintains proper balances in all accounts to cover anticipated expenses.
- Maintain subsidiary registers and generates support documentation for invoicing of government grants.
- Oversee the preparation of weekly finance reports, monthly expense reports, and other financial reports as requested to support decision making by the Chief Executive Officer.
- Oversee the timely input of accounts payable, payroll and general ledger transactions into the corporate accounting software systems.
- Develop annual budget in conjunction with Department Heads and monitoring expenses against the budget.
- Manages and oversees payroll. Process timely payment of payroll for all employee hours worked.
- Maintain records of payment, contracts, leases, service agreements and other documents of a legal nature.
- Assist Chief Development Officer in developing budgets and invoices related to government contracts and in developing budgets for non-governmental grants.
- Work cooperatively with departmental directors to support objectives and to generate organizational improvements.
- Supervise employees as they may be assigned to the Finance Department.
- Evaluate overall efficiency & timeliness of financial operations. Serve as liaison to independent and internal auditors.
- Perform all other tasks as requested by the Chief Financial Officer.
