Description

The Human Resource Director collaborates with MLAH leadership and staff to provide counsel and guidance, while building an engaged and thriving workforce. The HR Director will investigate, counsel, and advise management on issues related to employment, leave, accommodation, job performance, human resources regulations and compliance, unemployment, and labor practices. The HR Director serves as the subject matter expert (SME) regarding human resources best practices. The HR Director is responsible for partnering with HR colleagues, key stakeholders, and staff to deliver people-focused service in line with the needs and strategic objectives of the organization. Additional responsibilities include mitigation of risks to the hospital and positive influence on the organization. The HRBP works at an operational level with multiple stakeholders, deals with complex and sensitive people management issues, and positively influences management and leadership around the people's agenda and issues. Reporting to the Hospital Administrator, the HR Director should have outstanding business acumen and curiosity, thriving in leading and collaborating on complex projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Strategic Partnership

  • This role is deeply integrated within the organization, requiring an in-depth understanding of the respective department(s) by participating in team meetings and other business leadership meetings as needed.
  • Will be joining the HR team to oversee two full-time HR assistants.
  • Support and coach leaders in building highly engaged, high-performing teams while developing leadership capability.
  • Work with leadership to challenge the status quo utilizing change management and influencing skill sets. Take initiative to improve the people elements within the respective departments over time.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure relevant communication deliverables.

Employee Engagement

  • Partner with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, improve people experiences, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure that all people experience programs and initiatives are appropriately communicated and implemented.
  • Work with leaders to provide cross-functional support to influence outcomes both in the hospital and within the HR function.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop change management plans surrounding new initiatives and rollouts, organizational updates, updated policies, etc. Anticipate potential impacts and advise accordingly.

Leadership Development

  • Develop and deliver leadership development training in partnership with key stakeholders to improve leadership capability, employee performance, and engagement.
  • Research and maintain current knowledge of adult learning principles and best practices for training content development and delivery.

Employee Relations/Performance Management

  • Participate in the annual performance review process with leadership to ensure compliance and timely evaluations.
  • Collaborate on day-to-day performance management, including coaching, career development, disciplinary actions, and ensuring clear performance objectives.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, conduct investigations, facilitate conflict resolution, and recommend disciplinary actions.
  • Guide and coach leadership on employee relations and HR issues in line with MLAH policies and best practices.
  • Serve as a resource to employees, management, and HR team to promote positive employee relations and facilitate the resolution of job-related concerns.

Recognition Programs

  • Partner with stakeholders to develop and execute employee recognition programs and events.

Administrative

  • Advise employees and managers on policies and procedures, including training programs for new staff and supervisors.
  • Monitor and update personnel policies to ensure legal compliance.
  • Respond to EEOC complaints and collaborate on complex investigations.
  • Provide guidance on discipline, appeals, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

Compliance/Safety

  • Attend safety training, monitor work environments for safety issues, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Education Qualifications

Bachelors degree in business, human resources, psychology, organizational development, healthcare administration, or equivalent experience. Healthcare HR experience is a plus.

Certification & Licensures

Preferred: PHR or SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of employee relations experience.
  • At least seven years of comprehensive HR experience covering core employee lifecycle processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of US labor laws.
