Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
Must-Have: Ability to pass BCA testing during the first week of assignment.
Description:
Floating between departments and local locations within 20 miles is required.
Assess all triage patients over 20 weeks.
Utilize obstetric triage acuity tools.
Perform labor assessment and evaluation.
Conduct fetal evaluation and assessment.
Evaluate for labor at term, preterm labor signs, signs and symptoms of preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm premature rupture of membranes, vaginal bleeding, and acute and critical conditions.
If an emergency medical condition is identified, stabilize the patient for delivery or transfer to a higher level of care if needed.
Provide labor assessment, evaluation, and care during intrapartum.
Prepare expectant mothers for safe delivery.
Administer medications including but not limited to Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, and insulin.
Stabilize the newborn immediately.
Administer newborn medications.
Prepare for scheduled or emergency cesarean delivery.
Assess and care for postpartum patients (vaginal and cesarean deliveries) and newborn patients.
Newborn care includes but is not limited to hearing screens, assisting with laboratory draws, IV starts and care, medication administration (hepatitis B, vitamin K, erythromycin, antibiotics), assisting with circumcisions, and care of newborns with opiate withdrawal.
Stabilize critically ill newborns for transport.
Provide phototherapy and care for hypoglycemia.
