The unit serves a variety of patient populations, including adolescents and adults with varying levels of acuity. There are several distinct groups within the unit with differing needs. ADOL unit serves patients aged 12-18 years, while Serenity is a lower acuity adult unit. The ITU is designated for higher acuity adult patients with thought disorder diagnoses. SRAD includes patients who lead a senior lifestyle, and VINE serves lower acuity adults. Patient-nurse ratios are 8:1, with mental health technicians having a ratio of 12:1. The documentation system in place is Meditech. The role requires coverage for three 12-hour shifts each day, seven days a week, including weekends. Days off are not guaranteed unless specified in the contract. The floating policy is implemented where the greatest need exists. Staff are expected to follow core values, emphasizing integrity, compassion, respect, and effective communication. Key communication strategies include acknowledging the patient, introducing oneself, informing them of the duration of care, providing explanations, and expressing gratitude. This position entails assessing patient mental health status through thorough histories and behavior observation. Individualized care plans must be developed based on patient needs, including setting goals and evaluating outcomes. Administering medications and monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions is essential. Immediate support to patients in crisis situations, such as suicidal ideation or aggression, is required. Skills in de-escalation techniques and appropriate medication management are critical. Monitoring patients for physical and psychological symptoms, including vital signs and medication effects, is a daily task. The required uniform for nurses is blue.
