The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Controller, to manage accounting functions and oversee financial activities. This key role will involve managing financial reporting, cash management & forecasting, and financial compliance, ensuring the companys financial integrity while supporting leadership in making strategic financial decisions.
What Youll Do
- Provide strategic leadership to the accounting team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Set clear objectives, coach talent, and ensure ongoing professional development to support FreshDirects growth.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, delivering timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP. Prepare and present detailed variance analyses and insightful management reports to executive leadership and the Board.
- Partner with the CFO and cross-functional leaders to drive the budgeting and forecasting processes. Deliver data-driven insights and financial models that inform decision-making, optimize performance, and support long-term strategic initiatives.
- Design and enforce a strong internal control environment to protect company assets and ensure full compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance accounting processes through automation and best-in-class practices. Identify opportunities to streamline operations, reduce manual tasks, and improve accuracy and scalability as the business evolves.
- Lead the optimization and ongoing management of FreshDirects ERP and financial systems. Ensure alignment with operational needs, integrating payment and reporting solutions that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage all aspects of external audits and tax compliance, including coordination with auditors and tax advisors. Oversee timely and accurate preparation of corporate, sales, and use tax filings, as well as successful completion of the annual audit process.
- Develop and maintain robust accounting policies and procedures that support standardization, risk mitigation, and scalable growth. Ensure alignment with industry best practices and FreshDirects operational priorities.
- Compensation: $150,000 $200,000 annually (depending on experience and qualifications).
- Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5-10 years of experience in progressive accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a controller role. Experience in a private equity-backed company is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to details.
- In-depth knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting principles (IFRS and GAAP
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite and etc.) and ERP systems as well as advanced Excel skills.
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
