About this position
The non-exempt, fulltime position is responsible for the safe operation of a campus vehicle (bus, van, tram, car, ect.) providing transportation for students, staff, faculty and visitors on a scheduled route. Incumbent must be able to work a 5-day workweek that may include Saturday as well as occasional additional shifts, as needed, for special events or shortages.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain assigned schedules as dispatched in a timely manner.
- Assist all passengers with patience, safety, courtesy and friendly manner throughout the trip.
- Provide necessary transport services for the College during special events.
- Perform walk around inspection of vehicle and report maintenance or damage issues to supervisor.
- Assist handicap passengers on and off vehicle, ensuring safe transport.
- Maintain pleasant, courteous, and helpful attitude toward passengers and community members.
- Maintain clean, well-groomed appearance.
- Attend required training, endorsement or certifications sessions as required by the College.
- Use established procedures to report breakdowns and emergencies to the supervisor as quickly as is practical under the circumstances.
- Work in additional areas of the department, as assigned by management, when not operating transportation services.
- Contribute to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- High School degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 6 months related experience.
- Previous or current public transportation or experience with large passenger vehicle a plus.
- Must have maintained a safe driving record for the last 5 years.
- Valid, unexpired Florida driver's license with a clean record which must be maintained during the course of employment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively in a diversified community.
- Excellent customer service skills necessary.
- Must be responsible, dependable and punctual.
- Will be required to pass periodic driving exams.
