Candidates must have at least two years of experience in labor and delivery. Nurses will float to the emergency department to provide obstetric care with a primary nurse. First-time travelers are accepted. The nurse will be responsible for conducting non-stress tests and reflex checks. Assessment of edema and clonus is part of the role. Experience with external fetal heart monitoring is necessary. Knowledge of diabetes mellitus and management of malpresentations is required. Nurses should be familiar with multiple gestations and complications such as placenta previa and abruptio. Understanding pre-eclampsia and eclampsia is essential. Management of premature rupture of membranes and preterm labor is expected. Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns is required. The role includes administration of blood and blood products. Candidates will need to draw venous blood and start and maintain peripheral IVs. Experience with antihypertensives, insulin drips, and magnesium sulfate therapy is important. Nurses will administer medications such as Pitocin and prostaglandins. Assisting with high-risk deliveries and vaginal deliveries is part of the job. Experience with forceps and vacuum extraction is required. The nurse will handle cases of hemorrhage and manage postoperative recovery for C-sections. Candidates must assess APGAR scores and perform newborn assessments. Involvement in neonatal resuscitation and ensuring thermoregulation for infants is essential. Experience with epidural anesthesia and pain management is required. The position requires conducting wound assessments and postpartum care. Knowledge of vaccine administration and care for multiple births is expected.
