Candidates must have at least two years of experience in labor and delivery. Nurses will float to the emergency department to provide obstetric care with a primary nurse. First-time travelers are accepted. The nurse will be responsible for conducting non-stress tests and reflex checks. Assessment of edema and clonus is part of the role. Experience with external fetal heart monitoring is necessary. Knowledge of diabetes mellitus and management of malpresentations is required. Nurses should be familiar with multiple gestations and complications such as placenta previa and abruptio. Understanding pre-eclampsia and eclampsia is essential.
