The unit has 34 beds and a patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5 on days and 1:5 to 1:6 on nights. There are three techs available when the unit is full. Key equipment includes bipaps, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, alaris pumps, and various cardiac and insulin drips, as well as peritoneal dialysis equipment. Experience with wound vacs and documentation systems such as Meditech is essential. Candidates must be willing to work every other weekend and rotate shifts as required. Patient experience standards include hourly rounding on days and every two hours on nights. The department utilizes TV communication boards for patient engagement. Advanced skills in ACLS are necessary. Procedures performed on the unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, and central line dressing changes. The unit fosters a supportive, family-like culture and promotes teamwork. Self-scheduling is available with schedules developed four weeks in advance. Most travelers choose to extend their assignments after the initial contract.
