Job Description AbbVie is seeking an in-house Counsel for our Patent Prosecution group, part of the Intellectual Property, Transactions, and Innovation legal team. The Counsel will develop and implement intellectual property strategies for AbbVie's products and product candidates, working individually and with cross-functional teams. This role will support AbbVie's Immunology products and is based in North Chicago, IL, or Waltham, MA, with a hybrid work model (onsite 3+ days/week). Responsibilities: Maximize AbbVie's competitive position through strategic IP creation and management Provide legal counsel to R&D and business teams on IP matters Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide, managing outside counsel as needed Challenge and defend patents in various post-grant proceedings Conduct prior art searches, analyze third-party patent positions, and perform due diligence for business development Qualifications: Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, with bar admission enabling in-house practice (state not specified), and registration to practice before the USPTO At least 3 years of patent law experience, including U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, at a law firm or life sciences company Technical background relevant to pharmaceutical patent prosecution, such as experience with small molecules or biologics, or a degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, or related fields Strong legal, analytical, communication, collaboration, and project management skills Additional Information: The compensation range provided reflects the company's good faith estimate and may vary based on location and other factors Benefits include paid time off, health insurance, 401(k), and participation in incentive programs Note that compensation details are subject to change and are at the company's discretion AbbVie is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
