Finance employees receive, account for, monitor, and design internal controls to safeguard sacred funds (donated confidentially in obedience to God's commandments) for the Church's religious mission under the direction of senior ecclesiastical leaders. This is a senior/specialist level accounting/banking clerical position.
This position is considered temporary/time-bound and will expire in a period of 5-6 months . An incumbent performs detailed accounting clerical assignments of above average difficulty and resolves unusual or non-recurring problems related to various accounting functions including analyzing accounts, records, reports, journals, vouchers, and other accounting/banking documents for accuracy; investigating questionable entries and initiating corrections; and providing guidance and training to lower level accounting clerks. Incumbents are expected to help maintain and ensure accuracy of financial data. This position may be considered a paraprofessional accounting position. Responsibilities
Specific work performed may vary between the different sections, divisions, and departments for this position. However, duties will typically be of similar complexity and difficulty and will usually include the following types of accounting clerical tasks: Processing accounting/banking information including posting, comparing, computing, and reconciling a variety of debit and credit entries including those of a complex and difficult nature in an accurate and timely manner. Accurately analyzing and verifying accounting/banking information and error lists for accuracy and completeness and initiating appropriate adjusting entries. Reviewing accounting/banking reports for errors, completeness, reasonableness, adequacy, and content. Accurately analyzing ledgers, studying the interrelationships of various ledger accounts, and making recommendations for changes in practices and procedures. Training and providing guidance to lower level accounting clerks, who then perform competently. Collecting, analyzing, and entering information for reports in an accurate and timely manner. Responding to questions and telephone inquiries regarding accounting/banking information in a courteous and professional manner. While expected results of various individual positions may vary, they will all typically center around timeliness, accuracy, throughput, and integrity of information. Qualifications
Two years of college accounting courses plus at least four years of experience in bookkeeping, banking operations, or accounting clerical work or equivalent combination of education and experience. (In general, the incumbent will have completed college level accounting courses through the intermediate accounting series and will have additional course work in managerial and cost accounting. Completion of an Associate Degree in Accounting is preferred. However, some positions routinely deal with banking operational functions, and the equivalent training and experience in banking operations experience is preferred for these positions.) Demonstrated ability to operate a calculator and personal computer operating in a network environment with demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting bookkeeping, and/or banking principles, methods, and procedures. Seasoned judgment and analytical skills. About Us
