Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Description

Join our team as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, where you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing issues in diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering, and other systems. You will perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, and heavy haul trucks. This role also requires you to conduct welding or fabrication tasks as necessary, prepare work orders, order parts, and fuel equipment while maintaining a daily log. You will also be expected to keep a clean and orderly work area and meet other housekeeping needs, as well as perform additional assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair diesel engine issues.

Troubleshoot and repair hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering, and other systems.

Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment like dozers, excavators, and heavy haul trucks.

Conduct welding or fabrication tasks as necessary.

Prepare work orders and order parts.

Fuel equipment and maintain a daily log.

Maintain a clean and orderly work area and meet housekeeping needs.

Perform additional assignments as needed.

Essential Skills

Experience in general labor, equipment checks, and crane mechanics.

Ability to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment and pipelaying machinery.

Experience working with loaders, dozers, and excavators.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in the heavy construction industry.

A degree as a diesel technician or mechanic is a plus.

Welding experience is a plus.

Work Environment

This role requires working outdoors from Monday to Saturday, with 10-12 hour days. You must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs, and whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
