Onsite in San Diego Tuesday – Saturday 12-830pm The Histology Technician plays a key role in preparing patient tissue samples for review under the microscope. This includes tasks such as logging, sectioning, staining, and handling FFPE specimens. In addition to bench work, this role supports broader lab operations by training staff, improving workflows and systems, supporting quality initiatives, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The position collaborates closely with teams including pathology, pre-analytics, and lab staff, with a strong focus on maintaining efficient and high-quality processes that support company goals. Responsibilities Perform a wide range of routine and specialized histology techniques with precision and accuracy
Investigate and resolve histology-related issues and inquiries within the lab
Prepare high-quality tissue sections, including grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and H&E staining
Handle preparation of human tissue samples for research and diagnostic use, including paraffin-embedded specimens
Follow quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure consistent lab performance
Organize slides and prepare necessary reagents such as stains, alcohols, and paraffin according to specifications
Manage specimen accessioning through both manual processes and electronic data entry
Prepare slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, following established SOPs
Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment and report any performance concerns to the supervisor or manager
Required Skills Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a science-related field strongly preferred
HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification is a plus
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory, ideally within molecular diagnostics
Skilled in quickly and accurately cutting and mounting high-quality tissue sections, including small biopsies
Maintains required continuing education units per California Department of Health Services
Strong attention to detail and precision in work
Experience managing or mentoring others is a plus
Familiarity with a wide range of histology equipment from major manufacturers is beneficial
Physical Requirements Repetitive hand, arm, leg, and finger movements (typing, writing, lab work)
Primarily a seated role, with occasional standing, walking, bending, and movement throughout the lab
Regular verbal communication and hearing required
Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds
Exposure to a typical office and laboratory environment
