Maple River Schools, ISD 2135 is seeking a Full Time, Registered Nurse Salary is dependent upon experience and placement on the approved Teacher Contract salary schedule. Position Purpose
To promote optimal levels of well-being in students and staff. To strengthen and facilitate the educational process by modifying or removing health related barriers to learning.
Essential Functions
Assess the health status of students through annual health screenings (hearing, vision, scoliosis, and growth and development) review of health records, health histories and by completing health assessments. Initiates, maintains, and annually reviews students health information (health record, immunization history, Early Childhood screening results, annual health census forms.) Communicates current health problems, needs and concerns to their parents and appropriate school staff. Initiates referrals to parents, school personnel, and community health resources for intervention and follow through. Administers medications and treatments to students per M.D. orders and parent authorization. Participates on the child study teams; assists in identification of students with disabilities, interprets health factors pertinent to the students' disability and assists with the development of the IEP. Supervises LPN and paraprofessionals involved with health related activities. Develops and maintains a system for providing first aid and emergency care. Maintains statistical information regarding health status of students and utilization of school health service programs for annual reports by MDH and MDE. Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases through preventive immunization programs and the early detection and reporting of contagion. Participates in identifying and reporting environmental health and safety hazards, current and potential, for students and staff. Makes recommendations for a school environment conducive to learning. Provides on-going health counseling to students, parents, and school staff. Promotes staff wellness and offers professional assistance upon request. Serves as health resource person and guest speaker in the classroom as requested. Provides in-service education for at the school staff on health related topics. Provides transportation to home or hospital when parent or guardian unable to transport student. Prepares annual budget for the school nursing department. Serves on various community health committees as a representative of the school district. Participates on attendance committees for K - 12 students. Plans and carries out school health management protocols for students with chronic health problems. Collaborates with community agencies, health professionals and school staff to identify the health needs, current and potential for children and youth to facilitate school and community planning and intervention.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Note:

Education:
Baccalaureate degree in nursing Current registration as an RN in Minnesota Current registration as a licensed School Nurse of Minnesota
