Description: The Clinical Dietitian functions within the Medical Nutrition Services department and Community Wellness Team. Acts as a team member on a wide variety of nutritional needs. This position serves as a part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Provides patient care that is integrated and compatible with patient-focused medical goals. Demonstrates qualities endorsed by following the Standards for Service Excellence. Responsible for daily decisions on nutritional management for inpatients and outpatients. Keeps up to date in all clinical areas to manage daily problems. Complex problems may require literature searches, consultation with medical staff, and other health professionals. Must prioritize time within the constraints of food service and coordination of nutritional care. Responsible for applying current scientific knowledge about food and nutrition to promote optimal health outcomes. Translates complex regulations from relevant standards into everyday practice. Provides counseling for patients and caregivers on nutritional principles and dietary plans. Participates in interdisciplinary teams and serves as a consultant on nutritional care. Conducts nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation. Documents nutrition care using established departmental protocols in the patient's medical record. Works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide nutrition guidance and individual assessments. Communicates patient diet orders, food preferences, menu choices, and formula needs. Serves on and works closely with the multidisciplinary ambulatory healthcare team. Assists with teaching and community events that promote good nutrition. Provides nutritional education through community health fairs and outreach activities. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervising Dietitian or Division Director. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and completion of an accredited dietetic internship program is required. Two years of experience as a clinical dietitian is preferred. Knowledge of advanced medical nutrition therapy is necessary. Skills in education, counseling, and teaching are essential. Ability to work with other staff members and communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
