Position Summary:
Seeking an experienced
Registered Nurse
to serve as the
Risk Manager (RM)
and
Patient Safety Officer (PSO)
within its Quality Management and Accreditation department. This position plays a critical role in implementing risk management programs, advancing patient safety initiatives, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The RN Risk Manager will lead safety investigations, provide staff education, support accreditation efforts, and drive performance improvements across the healthcare system.
Essential Responsibilities:
Lead and maintain a comprehensive internal risk management program in accordance with Alaska Statutes
Oversee and support an organization-wide patient safety program as the designated PSO
Conduct risk investigations, adverse incident evaluations, and regulatory reporting
Direct and facilitate Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode Effects Analyses (FMEA)
Educate clinical teams on the systems-based causes of medical errors and process improvement
Conduct and document Patient Safety Rounds; promote a culture of safety and accountability
Participate in grievance review, follow-up, and communication with patients and families
Collaborate with leadership, CMO, Medical Directors, and Legal Counsel to address quality of care and peer review matters
Maintain current knowledge of regulatory standards (DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF) and healthcare legislation
Assist with quality reviews, chart audits, clinical documentation, and accreditation compliance
Mentor and guide staff; serve as a professional resource across departments
Maintain all required competencies and provide cross-coverage for QM team members as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Education & Licensure:
Active, unrestricted
Registered Nurse license in Alaska
(Direct Hire must apply before start date; agency staff must already be licensed in AK)
Bachelors Degree in Nursing
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) required within 2 years of hire
Clinical competency must be demonstrated within 3 months and every 3 years thereafter
Experience:
Minimum
3 years of experience
in risk management, patient safety, quality improvement, or regulatory compliance
Proven leadership experience working with cross-functional teams
Strong knowledge of healthcare risk trends, safety programs, and root cause analysis processes
Skills and Competencies:
Thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks (CMS, DNV, TJC, etc.)
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strategic problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
Ability to lead process improvement and educate multi-disciplinary teams
Strong organization and time management skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations
Comfort in working independently as well as collaboratively
