ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION This Head Start/Early Childhood program provides high-quality services to children and families, with a focus on health, wellness, education, and family engagement. The Nutrition Consultant plays a key role in ensuring receive nutrition services that meet federal, state, and program requirements while supporting culturally responsive practices and strong family partnerships.

Contracted, hourly compensation (rate commensurate with experience) Opportunity to impact child and family health outcomes Collaborative and supportive program environment ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsibilities 1. Nutrition Assessments & Counseling

Review and interpret nutrition screenings and assessment data for enrolled children and pregnant women. Provide individualized nutrition counseling and follow-up, especially for children with growth concerns, feeding issues, or special dietary needs. Document recommendations and interventions in compliance with Head Start and OSSE standards. Deliverables: Monthly log of assessments and counseling sessions. Written summaries/reports for identified children and families. 2. Special Diet & Allergy Management

Review and approve special diet requests and medical statements. Collaborate with teaching staff, kitchen staff, and families to implement accommodations. Ensure children with allergies or medical conditions receive appropriate meals and substitutions. Deliverables: Monthly updated list of children with special diets/allergies. Documentation of collaboration with staff and families. 3. Menu Planning & Meal Compliance

Consult with the Nutrition Coordinator to design menus that meet CACFP, Head Start, and OSSE guidelines. Ensure menus reflect cultural responsiveness and family preferences. Recommend adjustments for seasonal needs, dietary requirements, or parent feedback. Deliverables: Quarterly menu review reports with recommendations. Documentation of compliance with CACFP nutrition requirements. 4. Training & Technical Assistance

Provide training and workshops for staff and families on nutrition, healthy eating, and feeding practices. Offer technical assistance to teachers and family engagement staff on nutrition concerns. Develop educational materials on culturally relevant nutrition practices, healthy pregnancy, and early childhood feeding.

5. Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance

Support the Nutrition Coordinator in maintaining nutrition-related policies and procedures. Participate in monitoring, quality assurance, and site visits. Prepare monthly and annual nutrition reports for program leadership. Deliverables: Monthly consultant activity report. Contributions to annual reports for Head Start PIR and OSSE monitoring. QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in Nutrition Science, Dietetics, or related field (preferred). Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) required (or eligibility within [X] months). Experience in community/public health nutrition, preferably with children birth to five and pregnant women. Strong knowledge of CACFP, HSPPS, and food service operations. Excellent communication and training facilitation skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires working in both office and classroom/kitchen environments. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to travel locally between program sites as needed.
