HII Mission Technologies Internship
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD Skillbridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. Objective: The Skillbridge intern will train as a Systems Administrator within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal to prepare the transitioning service member to function as an entry-level Systems Administrator, capable of supporting Windows/Linux environments within the DoD and independently supporting MAF DMO operations with proficiency in core technologies, security compliance, and mission-critical infrastructure management. Desired End State (3-4 month target): At the end of four months, the intern will: Demonstrate proficiency in implementing and maintaining classified systems in accordance with DoD cybersecurity requirements and STIGs Successfully configure and manage virtual infrastructure using VMware technologies while maintaining system availability and performance Develop expertise in network troubleshooting and problem resolution for mission-critical DMO training environments Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the Skillbridge intern and considers the Skillbridge internship an overall positive experience. Program of Instruction: Training Location: Orlando, FL (on-site) Training Plan: Phase 1: Foundations (Weeks 1-4) Week 1: Introduction and Basic Systems Week 2: Security Fundamentals Week 3: Virtualization Basics Week 4: Advanced Virtualization Phase 2: Technical Skills Development (Weeks 5-8) Week 5: Storage Systems Week 6: Network Analysis Week 7: Configuration Management Week 8: Security Implementation Phase 3: Integration & Operations (Weeks 9-12) Week 9: Mission Systems Integration Week 10: Operational Support Week 11: Advanced Administration Week 12: Final Integration Additional Goals: Teach Linux scripting Demonstrated proficiency in core systems administration tasks Ability to support MAF DMO events independently Project Management Fundamentals Minimum Qualifications: Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction Education & Experience: Bachelor's + 3 years of relevant experience, OR Master's + 1 year of relevant experience, OR HS Diploma (or equivalent) + 7 years of relevant experience Certifications: DOD (IAT) Level II certification Technical Skills: Experience implementing and supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Microsoft Windows NT operating systems-both bare-metal and virtual-machine (VM) installations Experience configuring software, modifying settings, and performing configuration management per STIGs, JSIG, and other cybersecurity standards Hands-on administration of core VMware technologies, including VMware vCenter, ESXi, vSphere networking, and vMotion Experience managing NetApp Storage Area Network (SAN) technology Basic knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) for application and update deployments Ability to analyze network traffic and troubleshoot Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)/High Level Architecture (HLA) packets using Wireshark or a Data Packet Analyzer (DPA) tool Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a United States (US) citizen Must hold a current or active DoD Secret security clearance and maintain throughout internship. Preferred Requirements: Advanced experience designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining VMware technologies, including VMware Horizon virtual desktop infrastructure In-depth NetApp SAN clustering and performance tuning knowledge Platform performance analysis, telemetry, and troubleshooting experience Experience configuring Cisco routers, firewalls, Nexus switches, and Catalyst switches Administration of Atlassian Jira and Confluence products Working knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash Building application packages, Automatic Deployment Rules, and Task Sequences within MECM Ansible configuration management and playbook deployment experience Strong track record of implementing IT best practices in end-user environments Familiarity with IT-audit and security-assessment processes Ability to prioritize tasks and manage work assignments effectively Physical Requirements will vary and is dependent on the Program of Instruction.
