DNV Energy Systems’ group has an exciting opportunity for a

Power System Study Engineer

in its Renewables & Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. The ideal candidate will contribute in delivering technical insights and providing customers with excellent customer service.

Location This role is based at our DNV office in Dallas (TX), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Oak Brook (IL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Medford (MA) or San Diego (CA) presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process. The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within US.

What You’ll Do

Perform electrical System Impact Studies such as Steady State, Dynamic and Transient Stability analyses for generation, large load interconnections in PSS/E

Perform Short Circuit studies in ASPEN

Perform Voltage ride through (VRT) tests, dynamic model quality tests, model benchmarking

Perform transmission planning & compliance assessments for bulk electric power system in PSS/E

Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations for external Customers

Timely completion of projects assigned while meeting project quality and project budget

Develop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulations

Stay up to date with relevant NERC, ISO/RTO planning procedures, policy changes and developments

Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements

Cultivate customer relationships, technical advisory support for generations, and large load interconnections connecting to transmission system

For California, Washington, New York, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland: “DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. For the states of California, Washington, New York, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland only, the starting pay range for this role is $83,000 - $135,000.”

About You What is Required

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electric power systems

Minimum 2 + years of direct working experience to include transmission planning, expansion, generation and/or large load interconnection related analyses, NERC reliability standards such as TPL/MOD/CIP

Minimum 2 + years of hands-on experience with power-system tool such as PSS/E

In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy

Strong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skills

Ability to work in a dynamic team environment

Excellent oral and written communications skills in English

We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

What Is Preferred

Knowledge of ERCOT Electricity Market planning & interconnection practices

Demonstrable hands-on experience with one or more power system analysis software packages including ASPEN, TARA

Active PE License

Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems

Working knowledge of automation scripts such as Python

Knowledge of other Electricity Markets (such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE) planning & interconnection practices
