Packaging Engineer
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum. The Packaging Engineer position's focus is to drive operational performance for Logistics, Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The Packaging Engineer takes inputs from multiple stakeholders, understanding supply chain & manufacturing constraints to develop a robust solution (packaging & logistics) to support on site operations and outbound service packaging. This involves a high level of independent judgment, strategic vision, detailed analysis, technical understanding of manufacturing process, and outstanding communication skills. The Packaging Engineer will be involved in the best enterprise solution to maintain production at both the assembly plants and part suppliers. What You Will Do
Support Program Launch: Support new product programs and special projects by estimating potential container funding requirements Develop container designs for new projects Responsible to host all General Motors Defense Specialized Container Buyoff Meetings with supplier and plant to review proposed container designs Develop returnable container system size to support plant and supplier operations Support supplier sourcing by reviewing packaging costs and design Initiate and follow container purchase orders assuring on time delivery within planned budget Support Packaging Plan For Every Part: Ensure all packaging plans are compliant and approved based on GMD1738 specifications Maintain packaging within GMD Systems (i.e. MGO, PSAP) to ensure there is a documented Plan for Every Part Resolve any container related discrepancies in GMD systems Review and approve all supplier packaging change requests Container Issue Resolution: Support Container Return/Flow process for GM Defense Investigate container shortages Coordinate container repair, scrap, recycling, and re-use Function as liaison between GMD Central Office and Assembly teams for any container related issues Improve Packaging and Implement Process: Investigate and help resolve expendable/returnable container issues Analyze current packaging to identify potential improvements and collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Part Supplier and Purchasing to implement Cross functional development and compliance of Small Lot Packaging requirements Assist GMD Supplier Quality Engineer in the investigation of packaging related quality issues/supplier complaints Develop Outbound Service and Sales Packaging: Develop and maintain commercial packaging plans to support outbound part delivery Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelors degree 2+ years of work experience in Packaging and/or Supply Chain management Demonstrated technical and professional skills in packaging Ability to lead problem solving activities and manage project timelines Capability to concurrently manage multiple cost savings operational improvement projects and initiatives Ability to analyze basic financial data and identify cost drivers Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment Ability to effectively communicate Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
