Introducing Our New Executive Director – Sherri Starkey
Dear Members and Friends of River of Time Museum & Exploration Center, I hope this note finds you well. I’d like to formally introduce myself as your new Executive Director. My name is Sherri Starkey, and am delighted to receive the baton from Cherie as she passes it my way. I look forward to moving River of Time into the future with a focus on increasing our role as the valuable community resource it is. All while fulfilling our mission to: Engage, entertain, educate, and inspire people about the Lower Verde Valley, the river that runs through it, and the life that water brings to the desert.” I was born in Phoenix and have lived all but about 8 years of my life here, as my father was in the Air Force. Before my professional museum life, for many years I did costumed historical reenactments and presentations at various museums and venues around the state, with a general focus on Arizona history. My special interest is in domestic history and women and children’s lives. I finally decided to become a museum professional and received my Master’s Degree in Museum Studies from ASU in 2013. I have worked with Arizona museums ever since and in every facet of museum management. As a member of the Museum Association of Arizona since 2015, I was Central Region Director, then on the executive team as Secretary for several years. I have developed a strong network with fellow museum professionals as a result. I am eager to bring my experience and skills to our projects and collaborate closely with all of you. I’m excited to be here and am looking forward to meeting you. If there’s anything you’d like to discuss or if you simply wish to get acquainted, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your insights and expertise are invaluable to our collective success.
