Job Description The design lead oversees the Design Team in successfully planning, executing, and delivering primarily large-scale projects. Responsibilities include: Act as the primary design engineer of record and project lead for projects aligned with experience. Provide regularly scheduled project reviews to monitor design progress, schedule, and outstanding issues, offering guidance and support to design staff. Sign and seal plan sets as appropriate for the level of involvement in the project. Create or direct schematic design layouts and establish initial design direction. Plan out project tasks, priorities, timelines, and delegate tasks to project engineers and designers. Perform QA/QC of delegated tasks. Provide technical support and develop the expertise of project engineers as necessary. Communicate and coordinate with clients and design teams. Assist the design team with complex RFIs and CA issues. Provide guidance and generate Program of Requirements and Master Plans. Help develop augmentation procedures and integration strategies. Generate proposals as needed. Meet project deadlines. Mentor staff in engineering design and project delivery. Perform other duties as assigned and necessary. Education/Experience: Required: Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering. Master's degree in Structural Engineering is a plus. 5-10 years of engineering experience with project management experience. Experience with structural design codes such as IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, ACI, PCI, AISC, NDS, and TMS. Experience in designing and detailing various construction materials including steel, cold-formed metal framing, concrete, masonry, and engineered wood. Experience in structural analysis and building design. Experience in developing comprehensive construction documents. Skills and Licensing: Registered P.E. in Texas. Experience with Bluebeam, Autodesk REVIT, RISA, or RAM Structural System is advantageous. Solutions-minded and self-initiating attitude.
