We are seeking a Product Counsel to join the growing Product Legal team to meet the expanding needs of our company and our customers. In this role, you will be advising and partnering with our business teams to develop, enhance and scale Gusto’s growing suite of AI powered products and services. Gusto’s Legal & Compliance team

partners with product and engineering teams to enable innovation, facilitate responsible company growth, accelerate the Gusto roadmap, and provide compliant products to our customers, through solution-focused counsel on legal and business risks. Counsel the product, engineering, and design teams on a range of issues including data privacy, AI use, and consumer protections. Research and advise on complex regulatory frameworks to design or enhance innovative and regulated AI-powered products and services that support the HR and compliance needs of small businesses. Contribute to our product suite from brainstorm and ideation through launch. Contribute to key initiatives helping to mature our Legal & Compliance team’s functions. Qualifications

JD degree and a member of a State bar/active license to practice law. 7+ years of combined legal experience, with experience working in an in-house legal department at a technology company. Experience must include data privacy, AI product counseling, and/or AI governance. Experience providing pragmatic legal guidance related to tech products. What we’d love to see you bring

A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work well independently under pressure, while contributing to cross-functional teams. Enthusiasm for how technology can streamline and improve HR processes and painpoints. Experience with consumer protection, HIPAA, employment, consumer finance/fintech, and/or start-up law. Demonstrated ability to build consensus and build strong relationships. An eagerness to dive in, build, and drive projects independently. Experience creatively solving problems, taking into account legal risk and business needs. A team player mindset (no job is too big or too small). Attention to detail and the ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment. Office & Compensation

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale. Our cash compensation amount for this role is between $168,935 - $208,353/year in Denver, and between $199,150 - $245,618/year for New York/San Francisco. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above. Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. Our Commitment
