Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Admissions, the MSW Recruitment Specialist plays a vital role within the Admissions team, working in close collaboration with the BASW Admissions & Recruitment Specialist to support the team's strategic recruitment goals across both the Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare (BASW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs. This position is responsible for development and overall implementation of a wide range of outreach and recruitment efforts to create pathways and access for a diverse population of applicants to these professional degree programs. The University of Washington’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program is consistently ranked among the top 10 social work graduate programs in the country and is one of the largest graduate programs at the University of Washington, averaging over 700 applicants annually. As the lead admissions counselor for prospective MSW students, the MSW Recruitment Specialist acts as the primary contact person for inquiries and requests for program information from both individuals and partner organizations. Key responsibilities include planning/coordinating admissions events; advising applicants to the School of Social Work about program requirements and application processes; managing recruitment data, event calendars, and website content; taking the lead on development of recruitment materials; hiring, supervising, and directing student employees; and providing project support to the Director and others within the Admissions team. The position requires someone skillful in supporting and communicating with a diverse array of people, including students, faculty, staff, University colleagues, external clients, and partners. The successful candidate will be able to independently lead initiatives and projects with delegated authority, a high degree of autonomy, and with a high expectation of strategic thinking, a problem-solving orientation, and a deep commitment to equity and excellence. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by September 9, 2025. Position responsibilities Duties & Responsibilities: (Identify the percent time spent on each major duty, listed in decreasing order of importance. Recruitment, Advising & Outreach Advances multicultural outreach, including recruitment of first-generation scholars, students of color, and traditionally underrepresented populations to the MSW and BASW Programs.

Establishes and strengthens relationships with community groups and broader networks to drive engagement and outreach to diverse groups.

Represents the School at local and national events (20+ external recruiting events), includes regional and out-of-state travel, some evening and weekend work will be required.

Acts as an initial point of contact regarding degree programs, advises prospective students on program offerings, admission application requirements and processes, and opportunities within the field via email, phone, virtual and in-person appointments, and drop-in advising.

Maintains up-to-date MSW advising resources, supports onboarding of team members, and communicates changes for cross-training.

Promotes a culture of collaboration where faculty, staff and alumni feel encouraged to partner with the Admissions Office so that they can engage with prospective students on their own, leveraging the school’s wide range of expertise and talent.

Act as a point person for all things related to MSW outreach and recruitment.

Program Management Direct and oversee implementation of virtual, on and off-campus and prospective MSW student programming, including support for approximately 20+ school-sponsored information sessions/recruitment events (e.g. program information sessions/webinars, open houses, and Prospective Student Days).

Co-lead annual recruitment plan and support strategy for all parts of MSW outreach, including recruitment goals and targets.

Plan and implement large departmental-wide efforts such as the MSW Admitted Student Preview Days in partnership with the MSW Program Office and Student Services.

Leads all MSW advising, outreach, and recruitment data analysis and evaluation efforts to improve strategy; develop and maintain a prospective MSW student database for tracking inquiries, monitoring and managing data about prospective students and events.

Joint management and supervision of Graduate Student Assistants (Student Information Specialists who serve as admissions advisers/recruiters) and work study employees, including scheduling, hiring, and coordination with HR.

Collaborate with SSW marketing and communications team and UW Continuum College on communications and marketing for MSW programs, including managing the design and development of recruitment materials and digital content; manages design and purchasing of promotional materials.

Manage and maintain admissions webpages, including the newly admitted student website.

Manage and maintain the online appointment scheduling systems for the unit and Admissions Events Calendar.

Support the development of admissions social media content and targeted email campaigns.

Serve as a liaison, to strengthen and/or cultivate relationships on campus, partnering with programs and resources including Graduate Student Equity and Excellence Office (GSEE), Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC), Intellectual House / Tribal Liaison, The Q Center, Student Veteran Life, UW Health Professions Recruitment Collaborative, and more.

Collaborate with BASW Admissions & Recruitment Specialist on outreach and recruitment events, and SSW partners on projects relevant to broader admissions initiatives.

Additional Duties as Assigned Engage in professional development and maintain awareness of recruitment best practices.

Assist the Admissions team with application processing, funding review, and other duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, Human Services. Student Recruitment or a related field.

Two to three years of experience developing recruitment/outreach strategy and leading initiatives, to include at least one year of higher education administration, advising/counseling, student outreach/recruitment, or providing student support services

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Additional Requirements Excellent customer service skills and orientation, and strong attention to detail

Commitment to social justice and demonstrated experience serving diverse populations

Website editing experience

Event planning experience

Experience with data management, analysis, and reporting

Skilled in Microsoft tools such as Excel, Forms, etc.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent problem solving, and time management skills

Desired Qualifications Experience in college admissions, data-informed recruitment, or early outreach and engagement with youth in Washington and an understanding of the distinctive qualities of the UW

Understanding of the community college landscape in WA state

Knowledge of the Puget Sound region’s social services, nonprofit sector, or community-based social justice organizations; experience building partnerships with external groups and/or organizations

Communications/marketing - experience utilizing CRMs, developing social media/digital strategy, graphic design, etc.

Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or other graphic design tools

Working environmental conditions Represents the School at local and national events (20+ external recruiting events), including regional and out-of-state travel, some evening and weekend work will be required.

Irregular work hours may be necessary due to heavy recruitment timeframes; employee may request comp time/flex hours.

Hybrid work environment is possible, minimum 3 days in office.
