The Buyer plays a key role in leading and supporting all purchasing activities at Vishay Barry. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, this role is responsible for supplier management, sourcing goods and services, and ensuring uninterrupted material availability to support production goals. The Buyer partners closely with management, production, and internal departments to analyze demand, monitor inventory, and resolve material shortages while driving cost efficiency and supply chain excellence.Job Location:Vishay Barry is located near the Massachusetts / Rhode Island border in the bustling town of Attleboro, MA. This position is on-site at our 40,000 sq. ft. facility, which houses 70 employees with 55 in manufacturing and 15 in support.What you will be doing:
Lead the creation, analysis, and release of purchase orders (POs) in the ERP system; manage RFQs and supplier negotiations.
Maintain optimal inventory levels for raw materials and consumables through effective ERP controls.
Monitor supplier performance, escalating material shortage risks internally and externally while ensuring suppliers meet committed delivery dates.
Support production goals by proactively resolving material shortages and ensuring adherence to financial and inventory targets.
Apply FIFO inventory management practices to optimize material usage and replenishment.
Collaborate with AP, Finance, and Management to ensure invoice accuracy and proper crediting.
Drive cost savings through strategic sourcing, optimized purchasing, and leveraging Vishay's global buying power.
Generate and maintain accurate purchasing reports, supplier records, and performance data.
Support the Divisions Supply Chain Director on global procurement strategies and initiatives.
Identify and implement best practices in purchasing processes and tools; improve system usability and reporting visibility.
Train and mentor Buyer backup to ensure continuity.
What you will bring along: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) required, or equivalent relevant experience. Minimum of 5 years of purchasing or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Strong communication skills (oral, written, presentation) and the ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization, suppliers, and customers. Highly organized with excellent planning, time management, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to operate with urgency and manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong ethical values, integrity, and accountability in supplier and stakeholder interactions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (SAP or equivalent preferred). Reliable material flow that prevents production downtime. Cost savings achieved through effective sourcing and supplier negotiations. Strong, accountable supplier relationships that drive quality and on-time delivery. Accurate, visible, and efficient purchasing systems that support future growth.
